Soul Food For Your Health
SOUL FOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH
In our last WomenCare Complementary Forum, Cathy Crystal, talked about cancer prevention through food therapy and how to choose your food to stay healthy. Great talk & information. Thank you.
One of her emphasis was to remember SOUL when to eat, which is:
S: SEASONAL– Fall is the harvest season a time to reduce outdoor activity and pull inward. This is a season of dryness for many, thirst and dry skin, nose lips. To counter this dryness there are many fruits and vegetable can counteract this dryness and moisten the body. Persimmon, Pumpkins, Guava, Pomegranate, Prickly Pear, Asian pear, apples, quince are among many seasonal fruits now available in the markets.
O: ORGANIC- Pesticides and Herbicides are accumulating in the body and may cause many illnesses. Liver is the main organ to detoxify all these chemicals and overtime get exhausted or congested and not able to do it’s job. Stay with Organic as much as possible.
U: UNADULTERATED– Non GMO and unadulterated food. Eat unprocessed foods as much as possible. Many studies shows GMO food could cause brain injury and many other illnesses.
L: LOCAL- Locally grown food have more nutrients. Storing vegetables for long time destroy many vitamins in fresh produce. Local farmers markets are great source for fresh & locally grown produce.
